Just heard the news than Deryck "Rocky" Turner has passed away. What a player. He stood his ground in every match he played with never a backward step. He once had his ear split really badly in a match but refused to come off until there was a break in play.
I remember him lifting the cup for Trinity in those great finals.

What a player. I have many memories of seeing him play. He never took a backwards step. Seeing him with the challenge cup was memorable. RIP Rocky.

Very sad news if so. We haven't had a Captain of his calibre since he was at the helm.

Not sure about your captain comment, remember Turner was in a team of all stars so it couldn't have been that difficult.

What he did do and what is so missing from our club in particular and RL in general is that he was an enforcer of immense ability.

Unlike the sanitised game of today their was once a place for a player who new when to hand it out. Just like Mal Reilly he was a borderline at times but unlike some of the nutters in the game in the old days Turner like Reilly could play - and that is my favourite kind of player. I'd have been terrified of Turner as indeed I should of been!! I've never met Crabtree, Peacock or any of our own pack but somehow I don't think I'd of been a tenth as worried facing any of them when I played as I would have been facing Turner!

If true as said, it's a sad loss. It has brought back many wonderful memories when I think I saw most games he played in the Trinity shirt. Like others say he stood his ground and was a rock around which the rest of the team could work its magic. He know how to lift a team by example. I once used him and his removal company when I moved house (for me there was no way I was getting anyone else) and I was terrified of him then, never mind thinking about facing him on the field!

A player whose names is synonymous with Wakeys successful years. Great player. Sad loss. RIP

Never saw him play, too young for the glory years unfortunately. My Dad told me he was as hard as nails and never took a backward step, he said he led by example and he led the team superbly. RIP.
